In the felts reading group we have been learning to retell a story here is my retell of a story called the fisherman.

Reading activity
The fisherman
Waitangi day 1934
This story is about two boys that go fishing at the opua wharf then a man comes over and helps catch heaps of fish, afterward they find out he is a king.
There is a big Waitangi hui up the road.
Mum and dad got up early to go to the hui. While the boys find their fishing tackle.
The day passes slowly and the boys don’t have any fish.
A train comes chuffing down to the railway station then stops.
There was a lot of chatter.
A man came over and asked the boys’’ have you caught any fish yet’’
The boys felt there was something about that man.
The man took of his overcoat and grabbed the line.
The man threw his line out to sea, Alert at the edge of the wharf.
Soon the bag was filled with fish.
At last the train blew its whistle, as the people boarded.
‘’Thanks for the fish’’ said the boys.
One of the boys pointed at the man.
His name is koroki said dad he is a king.
