What is a star ?

A star is a ball of Plasma held together by gravity. At the end of its lifetime, a star can also contain a  degenerate matter. The nearest star to Earth  is the sun, which generates most of the energy on Earth. Other stars are visible from Earth during the night, when they are not covered by daylight. The  brightest stars have proper names. There are also constellations that where formed by bright stars in the sky. When people looked at the stars they could see objects which were then named constellations,. heres some of the constellations in the southern hemisphere. This is the Greek constellation Scorpius, Scorpius represents the hunter Orion.
